Living in Canberra, we are so spoilt for so many gorgeous and stunning locations around the Nation’s Capital. For example, we can drive 3 hours and hit Sydney, the Snowy Mountains to ski, or the beaches of Jervis Bay (with sample stop time)!

Another thing I notice is that Canberra is (understandably) always shown from the same angles. Don’t get me wrong, I love Mount Stromlo’s burnt out observatory and Lake Burley Griffin. They are gorgeous and stunning locations which are perfect for portrait sessions.

However. I want to throw a little spanner in the works and ask a bigger question:

Have you heard about all of the other 9,156,263 other places to do your family portrait session around Canberra? Like Pyrors Hut, Lake George, or even Yankee Hat Walking Trail?

I’m currently working on creating something very special for Canberra to really give it a good eye-opening when it comes to capturing people’s stories in places which are absolute gem’s in Canberra’s crown when it comes to sightseeing.

The first of these places in Yankee Hat Walking Trail. This stunning little trail is set in the Namadgi Forest about 45 minutes out of Canberra, and looks like something out of a martian landscape if trees beat us to it! One of the most amazing parts of getting out into natural areas like this is the stark silence. It makes for an even more intimate session where we can all truly enjoy each other’s company.

What better way to fill this landscape than with two beautiful star-crossed lovers? This is where Lilah and Stephen come in.

I’ve known Lilah for some years now and have been fortunate enough to work with her on a few photography projects. Lilah is one of the most well-known makeup artists in Canberra and with good reason. When Lilah and Stephen said that they were looking for a couples session with something fun and interesting, I knew exactly where to take them. Yankee Hat Walking Trail.

Taking couples and families on walks in and around Canberra is what brings out the magic of people, and there was so much magic here to share. These are two genuine and authentic people who were nothing but a pleasure to roam around with, from climbing old trees to listening to what they’ve been through together.

Thank you, Stephen and Lilah, for sharing your tales with me.

I hope you enjoy these images from our session out in the Namadgi National Park!
